Minnesota Vikings to extend quarterback's contract

The Minnesota Vikings re-sign a quarterback

The Minnesota Vikings had one major question at quarterback this offseason. The team has Kirk Cousins under contract for the 2023 season, but he’s set to be a free agent in 2024. The Vikings could extend him for 2024, so they can buy time to develop a succession plan. The team hasn’t made a move with Cousins yet, but they took care of his backup on Tuesday.

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Vikings should be re-signing Nick Mullens shortly. He was Cousins’ backup in Minnesota last season.

Mullens is a former undrafted free agent signed by the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. He threw for 224 yards, one touchdown, and had one interception in 2022. Mullens has passed for 5,085 yards in his NFL career and a 27-23 touchdown to interception ratio. The Vikings will have a suitable backup in 2023 should anything happen to Cousins.

The team recently made a splash in free agency by signing Marcus Davenport to help the Vikings’ pass rush.
